It might very well be true to say that education has never been more important in America than it is right now. It’s not hard to understand why. When one considers the way that the economy has behaved over the course of the last several years, it’s easy to understand that many individuals throughout the country are struggling to make ends meet. As such, the job market is extremely tough. There has never been a time when it’s more important that everyone is able to become as employable as possible, but there has also not been this serious of an economic recession in quite some time, either. College is a great way to make sure you have a relatively easy time when it comes to finding yourself a job. These days, if you want to get a job, you’re going to need your college degree. The job market is unfriendly and the economy is tough.

What’s more, though, is that the United States’ education system is in some serious trouble as well. Anybody that is currently going to school (or is getting ready to do so) will be able to tell you that college is expensive, and it’s only set to get more and more expensive as the years roll by. For this reason, it’s starting to seem like students can use all the help they can get. College is a complicated time in a person’s life, and there are a lot of ways that modern technology can help a student out. Of course, people like Bill and Melinda Gates are very familiar with this type of idea. Their philanthropic organization, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, has partnered up with Facebook to organize a content in which application developers and startups will compete for cash and prizes. The contest was started last September, and the winners have just been announced.

Twenty-one different applications and startups have been named on a winners’ list that was posted earlier this week, and the winners of the content will receive various cash and prizes to help them develop their products. These applications are all geared towards helping to make the lives of college students easier, and this contest has paved the way for some serious innovation. Whether you attend a school like University of Southern California or are pursuing your higher education at a university on the East Coast, college has a lot of complicated things associated with it. You’ve got to be responsible for a lot at that time in your life, so the winners of this contest will be able to help students have a much easier time when it comes to graduating. These days, college is more important than it’s ever been, so it’s good to see The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation partnering with a tech giant like Facebook to make this kind of contest happen. These innovations are important for our future, and with contests like these we’ll be able to see some truly great products in the years to come.
