There are endless options for anyone after a new Android tablet or smartphone during the latter part of this year, with specifications on the up and prices plummeting. So, if you’re in the market for a new gadget, which one do you go for? Here are our suggestions for some of the current best-buys…

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is one option that may well lure Apple fans away from the ever-popular iPad 2. There’s a Tegra 2 dual core platform so there’s plenty of power and the styling is pretty cool too. The bright screen is excellent, there’s great battery life and it offers a fabulous user experience thanks to the Android OS.

Elsewhere, take a look at the Asus Eee Pad Transformer, which offers a neat twist on the tablet device thanks to its intriguing keyboard dock. Once attached, this turns the tablet into a full-on netbook too and, with a decent specification and the benefit of Android driving the device, this will be a sure-fire hit with many people who don’t want to let go of their love for laptops.

Motorola has also come to the fold with its Xoom, and this is a tablet that has proved highly popular, mainly because of its excellent styling, which is backed up by a rock solid performance. It runs Android 3.0, has a dual core CPU plus decent camera and 1080p video playback. Combing excellent performance and a dazzling array of features it’s currently doing very good business.

If you’re looking for something a little bit different then it’s well worth exploring the LG Optimus Pad, which is a 3D tablet. You’ll find dual 5-megapixel cameras built-in and they work in tandem to capture still images and movie pictures all in 3D. With Android 3.0 preinstalled you’re guaranteed a decent performance and user experience, while the styling and battery life of this device is second to none too.

Meanwhile, Android smartphones are also continuing to beef up their specifications with a raft of new handsets that come with all of the latest features and performance built in, but for a top-value price tag. In fact, you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to Android OS powered phones, with the likes of the Google Nexus S, HTC Sensation, HTC Wildfire S and Samsung Galaxy S2 all proving popular.

Sony Ericsson has also been busy releasing Android handsets too, with the Xperia Arc well worth exploring if you’re looking for something a little different too. However, it’s still HTC that keeps cropping up when it comes to offering some of the hottest Android models on the market, with the Incredible S being a real highlight thanks to its killer specification, large 4-inch screen and 8- megapixel camera. Lets not forget the Desire and Desire HD models from this manufacturer either.

Of course, there are many other Android models on the market, so when it comes to making a decision on your next tablet or smartphone, then you’re certainly spoilt for choice.
