When you heard about the star-studded assembly of guests invited to the recent wedding of reality TV star Kim Kardashian and New Jersey Nets baller Kris Humphries, you probably didn’t expect to see Ellen DeGeneres’s name on the list. And yet, she was one of the many celebrities invited to attend the somewhat less-than exclusive event (the guest list for the wedding reportedly soared to over 500 people). Along with Eva Longoria, Lindsay Lohan, and Ryan Seacrest and Julianne Hough (amongst others), Ellen somehow managed to nab an invite to what is being described as America’s royal wedding. But how did she get in?
Well, for one thing, it is well known that funny-woman DeGeneres is the life of the party wherever she goes. And if you’ve seen her daytime talk show, you know she can dance. But it wasn’t her skills on the mic or on the dance floor that earned her a coveted invite to the wedding of the season; in fact, it was Twitter. Ellen reportedly tweeted,”No invitation to Kim Kardashian’s wedding yet. Worst Thing In The World,” just a couple of days before the event was to take place. And incredibly, Kim tweeted back about an hour later to say, “Of course u are invited!!!! COME!” Sadly, it seems that it was just a joke on Ellen’s part, since she responded by saying that she had nothing to wear, and then failed to show up at the wedding.
Really, only Ellen could get away with such a move, asking for an invite to an event that some people would give their right arm to attend. And the fact that she didn’t show up after scoring a personal invitation from the bride has got to rub some Hollywood A-listers (who weren’t asked to attend) the wrong way. In any case, the wedding was reportedly a gorgeous and lavish affair, taking place at the Sotto Il Monte estate in Montecito, California. Aerial photos from the wedding day show a giant covered pavilion on the ground, complete with billowy, sheer curtains all around. This last bit was probably not so much for privacy as to keep other photographers from spoiling the E! exclusive footage of the wedding, set to air over two nights in October as Kim Kardashian’s Fairytale Wedding: A Kardashian Event. Sneak peak footage has already appeared online.
Those who watch Keeping Up With the Kardashians and pay attention to celeb blogs have already been privy to events leading up to the wedding, including the Humphries clan brooding over their exclusion from the wedding plans and the California prenup penned by the uber-wealthy Kardashian’s. But despite a few bumps in the road for the happy couple, it appears that the wedding of the season went off without a hitch. Of course, the general public couldn’t tweet their way into an invitation like Ellen did, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get an up-close look at the ceremony and reception. Simply tune into E! Sunday, October 9th and Monday, October 10th at 9pm to watch the event for yourself.
