What is Democracy?

There was a Democracy Video Challenge on youtube..  Ngayon ko lang napanood(June 19, 2009).. hehe..

Ano nga ba talaga ang meaning ng democracy? Naghanap ako sa google kung ano ba ang meaning nito and some of  the results are:

• the political orientation of those who favor government by the people or by their elected representatives
• a political system in which the supreme power lies in a body of citizens who can elect people to represent them
• is a form of government in which state-power is held by the majority of citizens within a country or a state. It is derived from the Greek δημοκρατία (dēmokratía (info)), “popular government”, which was coined from δῆμος (dêmos), “people” and κράτος (krátos), “rule, strength” in the middle of the fifth-fourth century BC to denote the political systems then existing in some Greek city-states, notably Athens following a popular uprising in 508 BC.
